Welcome to the Pre-Kindergarten 2 Program

Hi, I am Rachel Sammons.  This is my second year teaching the Pre-Kindergarten 2 class at Bright Beginnings.  I graduated last spring from Wright State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.  I am looking forward to another great year with the Bright Beginnings team!

We are very busy in Pre-K 2.  We have a fun-packed morning circle time, which includes our morning stretches, calendar routine, number practice, and phonics.  We are working so hard to count to 100!  We are working on letter-sound identification, as well as writing in upper and lowercase.  As the year progresses, we will be doing our Letter Chant each day, which will focus on letter sounds.  This will build up to the Phonics Dance, which will help us learn “word chunks”.  These strategies will make it fun and easy for us to begin sounding out sight words.  We have a list of 25 sight words that we are working very hard to learn by the end of the year!

Our class enjoys incorporating several different subject areas into one activity.  We take our topics from our morning circle time, and include them in our math, science, and social studies activities throughout the day.  We especially enjoy the activities that involve food – whether it is learning colors through mixing colored cake frosting, or spelling our names in pretzel sticks – it is a great way to get kids excited about learning!

Working with this class has been a joy, and I am looking forward to all of our new activities and experiences.  I am certain that this group will do a great job!
